Although respecting all religions (and do not having anyone) I still believe that Catholic Church distorts what the Bible says.

Regarding to Jonh 6, there's absolutely nothing to do with Catholic Church as you said (I have no religion but I study deeply the Bible). I've just took an interesting excerpt as follows:

Jonh 6:65 :
And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.”

Also in 1Timothy 3:15 you perhaps have not understood what this verse says; see above:

15 ...but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

Here Jesus has been saying that GOD is the pillar and ground of the truth and NOT the church.

You've said:
>Um, Peter was chosen by Jesus, God incarnate. In Matthew 16:15-19, Jesus quotes Isaiah 22:22-23 and gives Peter the keys of the chief steward. In Acts we find the disciples electing successors. The Catholic Church follows the example of scripture.<

Again I have do disagree with you. The Vatican choose its leader by election and not by Jesus' teaching.

You've said:
>The conventional wisdom of "everybody" is wrong, as catholics do not adore hundreds of idols. Adoration (latria) is reserved only unto God alone.<

The Bible says, as I have quoted earlier, that one should not make molded gods (see Leviticus 19:4) and it is what I have found when I went to a Catholic Church.

You've said:
>Neither do Catholics, who don't consider him king but merely a NT episkopos (bishop). Catholics don;t consider the Pope a saint because he's still here on earth. Were the Pope in heaven, then he would be a Saint. By the way, are not all Christians lowercase "s" saints?<

I completely disagree with you on this matter.
I see the Pope as a powerful king. Have a look at this:
He owns banks, he has a country, he lives as a king with lots of servants, he wears a crown decorated with precious stones and gold, he seats on a wonderful throne, he has a personal army - and even the people who runs behind him does not get close, he has private drivers and runs in armored cars and so forth. That's to say, he does everything that Jesus didn't. Jesus is the Son of God and He could live like a king here on Earth, however he showed Himself a humble man (very different of the Pope).
What's more, Catholics think the Pope is saint and as you have said, perhaps he will be saint after his death. In my opinion, the only Saint is Jesus, Son of the God. The Pope might be a good man but NOT a saint.

You've said:
>Then you do not believe the Bible as the Bible makes clear that Jesus founded one visible Church, which according to Acts 9:31 is the ekklesia kath olos (catholic church).<

I believe in the Bible but not in what the men say.
Regarding to Acts 9:31 :

Then the churches[a] throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.

Again it has got absolutely nothing to do with Catholic Church. If you want translate it to the letter, the Church it's been referring to is a Synagogue (see Acts 9:20).

You've said:
>As you seem to know little about the Catholic Church, I would encourage you to learn what Catholics truely believe and teach.<

I was born in a Catholic family and till some time ago I was used to go to church quite often. But as I started to read the Bible by myself and understand what the Bible says, I have realised the time I had lost spending on this.
Nowadays I don't like religion and only believe in God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit and have Jesus as my real savior and not lots of images made by men, as I was taught. Since then, my live has changed much better.

To finalise, it's wonderful to learn that the Catholic Church had copied and distributed the Bible around the world, including this one I'm reading today. However it's just a pity that they don't follow what the Bible (I mean Jesus) says.

Thanks a lot for reading and for exposing your opinion. You're always welcome.

God bless you too and have a nice 2009.J.Falconhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04900258567127459274noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8617094131206968361.post-88021719153508551032008-12-27T15:47:00.000-02:002008-12-27T15:47:00.000-02:00Greetings! Saw your post in Google Blogsearch and ...Greetings! Saw your post in Google Blogsearch and came to read.

>"In my point of view, if a Catholic read the Bible, he would give up Catholicism!"

As one of the Catholics who read the Bible cover-to-cover by himself under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I am even more convinced of the truth of the Catholic Church. I found 100% of Catholic doctrine in the Bible, with nothing missing or added. I read the non-Catholic NIV edition.
Like the apostles at the end of John 6, after reading the Bible, there is no where else to go but the Catholic Church. The Church is, as the King James Bible says, "the pillar and ground of the truth" (1Timothy 3:15).

>"The Pope has been chosen by men to lead others men, that’s to say, a sinner chose by others sinners. Jesus was chosen by His Father, God."

Um, Peter was chosen by Jesus, God incarnate. In Matthew 16:15-19, Jesus quotes Isaiah 22:22-23 and gives Peter the keys of the chief steward. In Acts we find the disciples electing successors. The Catholic Church follows the example of scripture.

Jesus founded a church for sinners, filled it with sinners, and put sinners in charge. Your own church is the same. A church of sinnersd who hired (elected) another sinner leader and other sinners as elders. Sinners leading sinners. Same, same. Its the Biblical model.

>"Everybody knows that above all they adore hundreds (or even thousands) of idols, and even the Pope!"

The conventional wisdom of "everybody" is wrong, as catholics do not adore hundreds of idols. Adoration (latria) is reserved only unto God alone.

>"I respect their king, the Pope, but I do not consider him a saint!"

Neither do Catholics, who don't consider him king but merely a NT episkopos (bishop). Catholics don;t consider the Pope a saint because he's still here on earth. Were the Pope in heaven, then he would be a Saint. By the way, are not all Christians lowercase "s" saints?

>"First of all, he is not humble. How could a man be humble if he doesn’t give even a handful of his gold to the poor people in Africa that have been suffering starvation for so long?"

First, you seem to have confused humility with charity. The Pope is definitely humble.

Second, you clearly are not aware of Peter's Pence, which collected and donated $80 million wordlwide including to Africa. The John Paul II Foundation for the Sahel helps North African communities fight drought and desertification. Bottom line - the Catholic Church is the largest non-governmental charitable organization in the world.

>"do not believe that there’s only a right religion."

Then you do not believe the Bible as the Bible makes clear that Jesus founded one visible Church, which according to Acts 9:31 is the ekklesia kath olos (catholic church).

As you seem to know little about the Catholic Church, I would encourage you to learn what Catholics truely believe and teach. You'll find a short video "Epic" and further information at Catholics Come Home.

In closingyour posts reminds of the words of G.K. Chesterton:

"I could not understand why these romancers never took the trouble to find out a few elementary facts about the thing they denounced. The facts might easily have helped the denunciation, where the fictions discredited it. There were any number of real Catholic doctrines I should then have thought disgraceful to the Church . . . But the enemies of the Church never found these real rocks of offence. They never looked for them. They never looked for anything . . . Boundless freedom reigned; it was not treated as if it were a question of fact at all . . . It puzzled me very much, even at that early stage, to imagine why people bringing controversial charges against a powerful and prominent institution should thus neglect to test their own case, and should draw in this random way on their own imagination . . . I never dreamed that the Roman religion was true; but I knew that its accusers, for some reason or other, were curiously inaccurate."
(The Catholic Church and Conversion, NY: Macmillan, 1926, 36-38)

Keep reading your Bible. There's a reason why the Catholic Church hand copied it through the ages and then printed it for distribution. (You do know that Gutenburg was Catholic and the first printed Bibles were very Catholic Latin Vulgate editions, don't you?)

God bless... +TimothyTimothyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06992217665437521336noreply@blogger.com
